Learning to Be in the Now (no, like actually) / Human Design & Productivity
Being in the now means really feeding your current self based on how you feel now, rather than how you'd like to be later.
This week’s blog post: Productivity with Human Design

Hey Frennies,
I’m currently in China somewhere near to Shanghai and should be stable here for a little while. After feeling like I had absolutely no space to breathe, travelling up and down for three months, I really looked forward to this time. Yet, here I am, once again, feeling trapped like I need to have a plan and figure out my next, and NOW or else I have a huge problem. The feeling that I haven’t anything to show for myself, and that I need to get a job or some accolades to feel safe, to feel whole and deserving.
This feeling gets me manic. I jump on my computer, rip through Linkedin, spend hours on my profile, skip through online courses etc. All the while feeling kind of uneasy, like at any moment the rug might get pulled straight out from under my feet.
This is the exact energy that ends up keeping us in these cycles of burnout and doing a whole lot of work to see very little results. We aren’t producing the long-term changes and improvements we want to see in our lives because—
We aren’t working on us.
We are simply working.
Living in the future or the past is the definition of a lack mindset. We treat ourselves as if our living must be put on hold until some ‘quota’ of competence is met. Whereas living in the present is living with that of an abundance mindset. It is a place where your value is innate, and your actions echo from this deep sense of who you are, rather than a scramble to find something to prove to yourself you are capable.
One of the ways I’ve been working on centring myself in the now, and therefore a mindset of abundance is by working with Human Design. It is a blueprint to how your energy works in your body and how you communicate it to the universe. It’s a modern combination of many ancient spirituality systems (Chakras, Chinese Medicine, Yi-Qing, Astrology etc.) and I quite like it!
Even as a Human Design certified reader, I find myself leaning towards the ‘future me’ or guiding idea of who I could be when I’m ‘all healed’ or fully aligned, rather than working with who I am and my energy in the present. However, it is exactly that shift that will allow me to align and become that person (oh the irony!)
So, I buckled down and dismantled all my previous productivity and goal systems and started to build up in a more simple fashion aligned with my design.
For me, that meant no more smart goals, no more progress bars… it meant going head first into the impact I want to make in this world and reminding myself to respond in the now rather than live in my head.
asked me about using Human Design specifically for planning and organising, and I didn’t actually look at a specific resource like that, so in response I wrote a post on which aspects I looked at to derive a system based on my design.
"For me, that meant no more smart goals, no more progress bars…" this is literally my approach to productivity! I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one!
